Our Generative AI Policy

Our Commitment To You

When you work with The Blogsmith, you will never pay for AI-generated content.

Writing unique content is a pillar of The Blogsmith’s mission. We don’t respin existing content — we create new pieces with original perspectives. We hold ourselves to the highest standards when it comes to originality, authenticity, and accuracy. As such:

  • We don’t solicit AI-generated content.
  • We source information from reliable resources, and multiple people fact-check all claims made in our content.
  • We have several plagiarism and artificial intelligence (AI) checks built into our process to ensure that every outline and draft you receive is one of a kind, well researched, and high quality.

Our team is passionate about creating original pieces that educate and resonate with readers.

We love learning about each client we work with and crafting content that fits each brand’s unique voice, target audience, and goals. Using AI-generated content would undermine the value we deliver to each client and take the joy out of our work.

Simply put, we create content because we love doing it. It’s our ultimate goal to give brands content that creates a human connection with their readers, and we believe that can only happen when there’s a human on both sides of the content.

We know that technology changes, and we maintain a commitment to research, learn, and investigate new tools to hold a cutting edge in the content industry. Our goal is to use technology to deliver efficiency and competitive results to our clients, and we’re committed to ethical use and full transparency.

Our Stance on AI-Generated Content and Plagiarism

We believe that AI-generated content is plagiarism, and here’s why:
  • Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Content at Scale are only capable of remixing the data used to train them.
  • They don’t have the human experience or perspective required to craft content with unique and original points of view.
  • AI content writers don’t give credit to their sources, which is essential to us as fellow creators.
  • They’ve been known to confidently deliver incorrect information or “hallucinate,” negatively impacting accuracy and reader trust.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for both plagiarism and machine-generated content.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for both plagiarism and machine-generated content. All of our writers and editors sign agreements preventing them from plagiarizing or using AI-generated content and enforcing consequences should it happen.

How We Ensure Content Originality

At The Blogsmith, we believe the responsibility for ensuring originality in content lies with us.

It’s not something we offload to our clients, though you’re welcome to review our work if that is part of your process. As such, we use multiple plagiarism and AI detectors at several stages of the content development cycle.

The tools we use to check outlines and drafts for unoriginal content include:

  • Grammarly
  • Copyscape
  • Originality.ai*
  • Additional AI detectors*

*While the accuracy of AI detectors varies, we use them to support reviews by our team of editors and content managers. We have also used insights from AI detectors to improve our content quality by manually identifying stiff or generic-sounding text and rewriting it to be more engaging for readers.

To learn more, read our deep dive about the reliability of AI detectors, which is a recommended teaching resource on Cornell’s website in regards to AI & Academic Integrity.

The AI-Powered Tools We Use To Support Our Processes

When you work with The Blogsmith, you will never pay for AI-generated content. That said, we understand that it’s also our responsibility as a content agency to operate as efficiently as possible to generate more value for our clients, and we see the potential for AI to support that.

When it comes to SEO, we’re experts at balancing the needs of humans and robots — our founder wrote the book on it. It’s our goal to deliver high-quality content to our clients in a timely manner and make the collaboration process seamless.

The Blogsmith book

To that end, we use the following AI tools to support content creation:

  • Grammarly: To assist writers and editors during the editing process and ensure all pieces are original and grammatically correct. Our team also uses the custom style guide feature to help check adherence to The Blogsmith Style Guide. Grammarly isn’t used as a replacement for human editing. All outlines and drafts are reviewed by experienced human editors.
  • Fireflies: To transcribe and summarize client meetings and interviews with internal and outside subject matter experts (SMEs) and case study interviewees. Transcripts are sent to writers along with meeting recordings to ensure accuracy.
  • Clearscope: To increase the efficiency of our SERP research/content optimization as part of our process for creating unique pieces. We don’t follow every recommendation, but it creates some efficiencies in our SEO efforts.

Our AI Policy May Evolve

This policy may change in response to new advancements in AI technology, SEO best practices, and regulations about AI use. We’ll update this page as we update our stance. What will stay the same is our dedication to producing original, high-quality content and providing transparency about AI use to our clients.
